Acquiring an Account

All user accounts must be associated with a project as resources are allocated to projects rather than to individuals. Each project has a designated principal investigator (PI) who is in charge of the research project. University of Maryland faculty or staff with research projects consistent with CSCAMM's mission may fill out a CSCAMM IBM SP/2 Project Application form to apply to become the Principal Investigator (PI) of a new project. Each project will be billed according to the following usage categories:

Category CPU Hours Backed Up Disk Non-backed up Disk Fee
Small 150/week 1   Gigabyte  9 Gigabytes $400/yr
Medium 300/week 10 Gigabytes  40 Gigabytes $800/yr
Large 600/week 10 Gigabytes  90 Gigabytes $1600/yr

Non-backed up disk can be converted to backed up disk at a cost of $15/Gigabyte per year.

The Principal Investigator of a project is the manager of the users and resources associated with the project and is the person held primarily responsible for all associated project activity. The PI can allow collaborators to work on the  project by authorizing additional project users using the CSCAMM IBM SP/2 Project Management form.  The new user may then request an account by submitting a CSCAMM IBM SP/2 New Account form. Further restrictions may be applied in the granting of CSCAMM resources based upon the availability of uncommitted resources.

Papers and publications including results obtained using CSCAMM resources, or with the assistanceĀ of CSCAMM staff, must acknowledge this with an appropriate credit line(s), such as:

  • General CSCAMM Acknowledgment:
The authors would like to thankĀ  the (list system or resource) support staff at the Center for Scientific Computation and Mathematical Modeling (CSCAMM) at the University of Maryland for their assistance.

  • Standard IBM SP/2 Acknowledgment:
The use of the IBM SP/2  provided by the Center for Scientific Computations and Mathematical Modeling (CSCAMM) at the University of Maryland, is gratefully acknowledged.
