Resonance Problems for Microstructures
in Linear and Nonlinear Photonics

Professor Michael Weinstein

Columbia University

Abstract:   Nonlinear dispersive PDEs such as the nonlinear Schroedinger / Gross Pitaevskii govern (i) propagation of light through inhomogeneous and nonlinear media and (ii) the evolution of macroscopic quantum systems (BEC). We discuss resonance problems which arise in studying interactions of nonlinear bound states, defect states and radiation states. Implications for the control of waves through design of microstructures are discussed.
