The interplay between galaxies and black holes:
a theoretical overview

Abstract:
I will review theoretical progresses on the role that black holes have on
shaping the evolution and formation of galaxies. I will also discuss the
effect of X-ray sources on the ionization and thermal evolution of the
intergalactic medium.
