Abstract:

The effective-source method (first proposed by Barack & Golbourn and Vega & Detweiler in 2007) provides a general method for computing radiation-reaction effects in Kerr spacetime. This method is of particular interest because of its ability to handle almost arbitrary orbits. Here I discuss the practical implementation this method, focusing on the techniques needed for efficient computations for highly eccentric orbits.
