Abstract:
Due to the small signal to noise ratio, earth-based gravitational wave detectors --which are already operating at design sensitivity-- require banks of templates for detection as well as
source estimation. I will discuss the computational and algorithmic challenges associated with generating such templates for binary black hole collisions, which involves solving parametrized hyperbolic partial
differential equations using supercomputers.
