A Semi-Analytic Approach to Singularities for the Incompressible Euler Equations

Dr. Russel Caflisch

Math Department at UCLA

Abstract:   We are attempting to construct singular solutions of the Euler equations using a combination of numerical computation and mathematical analysis. The first step is a highly accurate numerical computation of a complex traveling wave solution with singularities. Assuming the validity of these numerical solutions, the next step is construction of a real solution through an asymptotic expansion. This talk will describe preliminary results for this construction.
