Welcome to
Hyp2008 -- the twelfth international conference devoted to theory, numerics and
applications of hyperbolic problems. The objective of the conference is to bring together scientists with interests in the theoretical, applied, and computational aspects of hyperbolic partial differential equations and related mathematical models found in diverse fields. As has
been done in the past, a special effort will be made to enable
young scientists to attend and to promote their interaction with the more senior
researchers.

The proceedings of HYP2008 will be published by the American Mathematical Society (AMS). Papers from Plenary, Invited, and Contributed speakers at HYP2008 are welcome here. The deadline for accepting papers for the HYP2008 proceedings is November 30, 2008. All papers will be refereed, and notification of acceptance will be made by January 30, 2009.
The lecture slides of Plenary & Invited speakers are now posted

The Thirteenth International Conference on Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics, and Applications will be held in Beijing, China. See you at HYP2010!
A list of conference participants from HYP2008 is posted.

Hyp2008 covered a
wide variety of the theory, numerics and applications of hyperbolic as well
as other time-dependent problems. Its scope highlighted several main themes:
Singular limits (zero-viscosity, relaxation, incompressible limit,
semi-classical limits)
Nonlinear wave patterns in multi-dimensions
Particle/molecular dynamics (kinetic methods, magneto-hydrodynamics)
Theory and numerics of multiphases and interfaces (boundary layers, phase
boundaries, multiphase wave propagation)
Transport in complex environments (homogenization, semi-classical limits,
scattering in random media, porous media, biological applications, network
and traffic flows)
Model reduction - coupling and decompositions (passage from microscopic to
macroscopic, numerical issues in transitional regimes, decomposition of fast
and slow dynamics, coupling of Lagrangian-Eulerian descriptions).
We were very happy to host HYP2008 at the University of Maryland in June 2008.

History (past and future) The series of international conferences on Hyperbolic Problems was initiated
by C. Carasso, P.-A. Raviart, and D. Serre with the first conference held
in St-Etienne,
France in 1986. Since then it has been organized on a biannual basis in Aachen, Germany
(1988), Uppsala,
Sweden (1990), Taormina,
Italy (1992), Stony
Brook, USA (1994), Hong
Kong (1996), Zürich,
Switzerland (1998), Magdeburg, Germany (2000), Pasadena, USA (2002), Osaka, Japan
(2004) and Lyon, France
(2006). Following this conference in College Park (2008), the Hyp series continued in Beijing (2010), Padova (2012), Rio de Janeiro (2014) and Aachen (2016).
